Lifehacker asks… What’s the difference between putting your PC in Hibernate or Standby mode? October 17, 2007

hibernate.pngBasically, Standby recovers quickly since your data is stored in memory. Your computer is still on (although in low power mode).

Hibernate takes longer to restart since your computer is powered off and your data is saved to your hard drive.
