toread – an email-based bookmark service December 3, 2007

While I’m browsing I often email myself things to save or read more carefully later. Before, I would use the “Gmail this” bookmarklet to send things to myself, which is totally usable, but a little clunky and time consuming.

With “toread”, I just click a bookmarklet in my browser and it shoots the current page to my email. No muss, no fuss.

listpic (Craigslist pic viewer) November 22, 2006

OK Craigslist users, this is cool… listpic is a thumbnail frontend to Craigslist which lets you browse photos of cars, furniture, or whatever instead of viewing the posts one by one…

A while ago my wife and I moved into a new place and needed some new furniture. The first thing that came to mind was Craigslist. I had used Craigslist a lot in the past to find jobs. It worked great for that. Finding furniture on Craigslist was a totally different experience.

When looking for furniture on Craigslist, the main thing I wanted to do was browse through all the photos. I didn’t know the exact furniture I wanted, but I knew what I liked once I saw it. I ended up clicking in and out of all the posting with pics. It took forever and made me go crazy! I stopped right there and thought to myself, there must be a better way of doing this.

That is when inspiration struck, what would be great is to see all the photos laid out just like iPhoto. I wanted to be able to quickly scan and scroll through all the pics, change the zoom, and quickly preview postings. That night I set out to fix this problem for myself and everyone else. I stayed up all night coding the first version of listpic. I hope you like it and it helps you too.

Google Maps just snuck in a cool feature… when you search for a business, in addition to the store’s information is a new “call” link, which prompts you for your phone number when clicked

When you put in your digits, Google will call you and the business and connect you – no charge.

Those of us who have a need to share large files without emailing them seem to have an abundance of choices these days. I’ve been pretty impressed with one my earlier finds MediaFire, but hot on it’s tail is new contender Files UPLOAD.

Files are limited to 1GB in size, but uploads are unlimited and have unlimited storage (assuming you download them at least once in 6 months) AND it supports FTP uploads! On top of all that, they will give you a free subdomain “myname.files-upload.com” for easier access to your files.

Anyone want to give it a shot and let me know how they like it?

Just think of the possibilities… make your PDF documents editable by converting them to MS Word or convert your iTunes (aac) files to mp3! You can send up to 5 files at a time for simultaneous conversion
